My dev machine is down. I'm here on my hubby's craptop
I went to install ubuntu 18.04lts and grub2 refuses to boot my system
I've tried installing using a ton of different configs, i even pulled a drive because it was insisting on writing the boot to sdb instead of sda
It just dies. Cannot find an OS but the setup is successful.
Now I'm hosed. I don't know where my windows DVD is since I've moved, and I'd have to put a dvd drive back in the #$(# thing even if i found it.
I hate linux when it doesn't work. I'm probably doing something wrong but I have no idea what. This system has taken this same version of ubuntu before (albeit on an older hard drive, but both SATA hdds under 3TB)
I'm so over a barrel right now. FML
sorry wrong group

As long as you read the entrails to decode the event log first, that's fine.

It's currently printing the box for the IR temperature display I'm going to add to the top.

Printer? Piece of Furniture?
Reminds me of vintage TV's in that respect.
Probably I'll await the ionic-bottle-containment systems. This will work with the pattern is used to create an EMF that will attract charged "ink" and just fill the container. Quickly.

I'm waiting for the Star Trek replicator.

The problem with my replicator is that it just consumes too much power. I mean even having mine produce a small raisin raises my electric bill to nearly a month's pay.
You need one of these if you want one.[^]Most people, such as yourself, don't realize the operating expenses of converting energy to matter.

By the time the Star Trek replicator comes along, I trust we will also have solved the power requirements issue.

Bear in mind replicators are two-way: they convert energy to matter and matter to energy for waste disposal. At a guess, they are the only reason Star Fleet can run long range missions - food, air, water, spares, laundry, and sewage disposal are all replicator functions. The ship is a nearly closed system, so "recycling" works fine, provided there isn't too much inefficiency in the system.
So they shouldn't need excessive power: feed matter in one end, convert to energy, convert to different matter at the other.

Never saw the reverse process on StarTrash, but you did bring something to mind:
Human wastes go in and converted French cuisine.*

Yep. Broadband: the walls are 2ft / 60cm thick granite, and mere mobile signals have trouble. I'd be looking at modem speeds to use 3G / 4G, and 5G is right out the window for at least a decade.
Even with mobile, it has to be the right provider if I want to stay dry - most of 'em only work at the bottom of the garden because we're at a narrow point of the valley and signal doesn't get through well.
Still, I get 50Mbs FTC broadband that's solid as a rock, which is nice.
